Man allegedly murders brother, neighbour

Four people, including a 69-year-old, have been apprehended in Oshikoto, following a double murder incident that occurred last week in the Bravo area. One of the suspects was shot in the arm as he tried to flee from the police.

Among the suspects is a 33-year-old Mathias Mandume, believed to be the kingpin, who reportedly organised and killed his older brother Gabriel Mandume, (41), with the help of a 25-yearold male accomplice.

According to the police, the motive remains unknown. Shortly after that incident, another victim was found murdered in the same area, as it is believed that he might have witnessed the first murder.

“Gabriel Mandume was allegedly killed and his body was spotted lying dead in the bushes at Onandashiye village, in the Bravo area. The deceased person was found with stab wounds on the back and head. The other body is Jose Domingos Ndengue Paulo, an Angolan national,” said Oshikoto Police’s Petrus Shigwedha.

“Two suspects attacked the deceased persons by beating and killed them by shooting with a firearm, a 2.2 caliber from behind and both died on the spot,” he added.

After the incident, the suspects fled and were later apprehended at a farm belonging to veteran politician Helmut Angula. The farm is situated 20 kilometres from the scene of crime.

“In the process of executing arrests, suspect Johannes Immanuel (25) tried to flee. However, he was stopped and apprehended after being shot and injured on the right upper arm, with no fracture though,” stressed Shigwedha, adding the suspect is in a stable condition.

“Preliminary investigation revealed that the firearm used in the commission of crime was recovered in the possession of Isak Petrus (38) and Lotto Uupindi (69) who are now accused number three and four. The firearm is unlicensed,” stated Shigwedha.

Court yesterday where they were all denied bail.
