Suburbs ready to challenge for premier league title

- Maurice Kambukwe

Western Suburbs head coach Lorenzo Kloppers is confident his team can contest the Namibia Rugby Union (NRU) League title after they thrashed Trustco United at home by 38 points to five.

The in-form Khomasdal outfit powered over United convincingly, leading half time by 24-3.

Kloppers expressed satisfaction with the way his charges showed strength throughout the match, adding that it was part of their game plan to attack from the onset and come out victorious.

“We set some targets, especially for this game, and the biggest target for us was to speed up the game and we fulfilled it today. I am so glad that we could score six tries to two,” he told New Era Sport.

“Our game plan for this year is that we want to play quick from the base, meaning all the problems we had last weekend against Unam, we had sorted out. We want to build on this impressive win heading forward,” said Kloppers.

With the impressive win at home,

the coach is confident that his team is good enough and ready to challenge for the top title this season.

“Definitely, our main goal is to go all the way and reach the semifinals and eventually the finals. We believe we have a team that is capable, and today’s results have just proven that we can go all

the way out,” he said.

Meanwhile, United head coach Robert Dickson was disappointed with the results but remained positive they will bounce back in the coming matches.

“It’s never good to lose a game, but it’s still the beginning of the season and we have enough time to restructure and bounce back. I

believe it was not our day, and we are hoping to come back stronger in our next match,” he said.

Elsewhere, defending champions Unam suffered their first defeat of the season as they went down 20-5 to Kudus, while Grootfontein continued with their good run this season, beating Reho Falcon 48-16.
