Budget: NPC handed N$183 million
The National Planning Commission (NPC) has been allocated about N$183 million to implement key activities of the sixth national development plan (NDP6), vision 2030 and economic development.
Presenting the NPC 2022/23 budget of N$182 million in parliament on Monday, minister in the presidency Christine //Hoebes said the NDP6 was developed in a series of Vision 2030, following the end of NDP5 in March 2022, with interlinked developmental pillars, which include economic recovery, transformation and resilience; human development and community resilience; sustainable development and green growth opportunities, as well as effective governance and public service delivery.
“It is worthy to note that NDP6 is the last plan in the journey towards realising Vision 2030 goals. Hence, it is proposed to cover the years 2023/24 to 2030/31,” she noted.
//Hoebes said about N$13 million has been allocated to regional and sectoral planning and policy coordination, aimed at ensuring the NDPs are implemented, and to further strengthen regional planning and coordinate the formula view of socio-economic public policies, to ensure consistency with national objectives and priorities as well as to evaluate policy effectiveness.
She indicated N$29 million is allocated to monitoring, evaluation and development partners coordination, aimed at mobilising, coordinating and managing external development resources, as well as to develop and maintain a national integrated monitoring and evaluation system for the government.
//Hoebes further indicated the supervision coordination and support services programme received about N$130 million, aimed at providing supervision, efficient administrative and support services, as well as provision and maintenance of ICT infrastructure and production of reliable statistics. “It is under this programme that National Planning Commission provides financial support to the Namibia Statistics Agency with an amount of N$94 356 000 to perform its mandate,” she indicated.
Equally, she noted N$11 million has been allocated for the economic planning programme geared towards socio-economic development.
