New Taekwondo federation names interim exco

- ■ Staff Reporter

The newly formed Namibia Taekwondo Federation yesterday named its executive committee members who will be serving in those positions for two years – 2022 to 2024.

They are Sieggie Veii-Mujoro as the interim president, Cornelius Dalton as the interim vice president, Jatjinda Kambatuka as the interim secretary general, and interim exco members Joviita Kandjumbwa, Basilius Karupu, Protasius Singombe and Tendai Chikumbu.

Taekwondo is a Korean form of martial arts characterised by punching and kicking techniques, with emphasis on head-height kicks, spinning jump kicks, and fast kicking techniques. It is a kind of martial art in which one attacks or defends with hands and feet anytime or anywhere, with occasional use of weapons. The physical training undertaken in Taekwondo is purposeful and fosters strength of mind through mental armament.

Speaking at a press conference yesterday, Veii-Mujoro said he is delighted to have been chosen to lead the newly formed federation for the next two years.

“I have been selected as the president and they have entrusted

me to lead them which I feel delighted about, and we will be working hard to ensure that we work towards our main goal. We will also do everything in our power to ensure that the sport thrives and

gets known,” he said.

Meanwhile, Namibia Sports Commission chief administrators Freddy Mwiya said they are happy that the federation is now affiliated with them and have urged established

federations to work with them.

“We are excited to announce the affiliation of the Namibia Taekwondo Federation. We hope they work together and make history together. We encourage those that

are already established to work together with them and ensure they grow,” he said.

The federation intends to host its first competition early next year.
