Gospel meets jazz for mental health
AN assortment of Namibian and South African artists are set to grace the Vegkop Stadium on 10 December for what promises to be an electrifying summer festival, marrying the gospel and jazz genres to entertain and create awareness around mental health.
The artists include South African TV personality and R’nB sensation Loyiso Bala, Namibianborn Afrikaans country singer Juanita du Plessis, local saxophonist Suzy Eises, Clive & The Now Generation Band, Nam Gospel United and Fu-Jazz, amongst others. A portion of the proceeds will be donated towards the support of mental health awareness in Namibia, said Andre Bok, the organiser of the show through Vocalcast Productions.
“The intended beneficiaries will be announced after the event. This is a family day for all ages, so I encourage everyone to be part of it,” he said.
Bok added that the idea of this show has been on his mind for quite some time because of his family’s love for music.
“We love music, we love jazz music, we love gospel music, and we found that there are no real events currently happening in our country which bring these two genres together, which ultimately evokes the same kind of feeling.”
The 10th of December is also International Women’s Day and Human Rights Day, which
allows the team to celebrate these momentous and imperative occasions wholly, with clean familyfocused entertainment.
Bok added: “All family members can be part of the celebrations and festivities in a conducive environment. It is all about family. Christmas is a series of seasons for us as Christians to be happy and to be joyous. That is the reason why we chose that specific date”.
The family-oriented show is slated to start at 10h00, and organisers are projecting an attraction of at least 6 000 music lovers.
