MICT engages Zambezi on communications strategy

- Marythar Kambinda

KATIMA MULILO - The Ministry ofInformationandCommunication Technology held an engagement on Tuesday on the government’s communications strategy roll-out in Katima Mulilo.

The strategy aims to guide the entire government communications function, and provides an essential framework to advance socioeconomic transformation through effective communication, while embracing digital leadership.

Communications minister Peya Mushelenga and his executive director (ED) Audrin Mathe have been on nationwide engagements to familiarise local authorities, regional councils and government institutions on the government’s communications strategy.

Mushelenga officiated at the engagement, and detailed the importance of communication, which is an effective tool between those who are elected and those who are serving the public.

“That is why the government has structures of information and communication dissemination,” he added.

Mushelenga advised those in charge of providing information not to become complacent with information, and to end up providing information that is not correct. Also speaking at the engagement was Mathe, who said adequate information is essential for the public to understand, respond to and influence government policies and programmes, as well as how they are implemented.

The communications strategy focuses on four operating models, namely policy and research, communications advice, planning and management, said Mathe.

“We are all to communicate correctly, more regularly, as well as openly and effectively,” he continued.

The engagement was attended by regional and local authority councillors in the Zambezi region.
