Learner killed in GRN car accident
RUNDU – The Namibian Police in the Kavango East region reported that a 14-year-old girl was hit by a government vehicle and died on the spot, while another was rushed to the hospital after sustaining serious injuries at Ndiyona village on Thursday afternoon. The duo are cousins and from the same household.
The victim was identified by family members as Rutgela Namvhura Muronga from the Ndiyona settlement. The injured girl was identified as Christophine Muronga, 10 years of age.
The 57-year-old driver of the vehicle was not arrested but he is reported to be a nurse at Nyangana hospital, residing at Guma village – not far from Ndiyona settlement.
“It is alleged that the driver of a white Toyota bakkie (GRN 27157) was driving on a highway from east to west – and upon reaching the Ndiyona T-junction, he bumped two pedestrians, who were crossing the road; they were running from south to north. As a result, one died on the spot, whereas the other sustained a left leg fracture and multiple bruises on the body,” said Kavango East Police commander Bonifatius Kanyetu.
Kanyetu cautioned drivers to drive safely to prevent unnecessary accidents and keep roads safe.
Meanwhile, in the Kavango West, the police reported two housebreakings at two schools: one occurred on Friday at about 07h00 at Gcamade JP school in the Kapako constituency. It was alleged that unknown suspects used a traditional axe to break the principal’s office door, and entered and stole N$2 580 cash that was in a drawer.
The suspects also damaged padlocks and other locks, valued at N$200.
The total value of the theft and damage is believed to be around N$2 780. No recovery or arrest has been made. In another case, on Friday night at Karangana Combined School, in Kapako constituency, Kavango West, it is alleged that unknown suspects broke the door, entered the principal’s office and stole N$7 600 cash; a safe box, valued at N$450-00; a school bag, valued at N$130, and also damaged locks, valued at N$420.
The total value is estimated around N$8 600. No recovery or arrest has yet been made.
