Haval is expanding its HEV product offering with the launch of the self-charging hybrid electric Haval Jolion HEV. The launch of an HEV (hybrid electric vehicle) in this affordable compact SUV segment is set to make hybrid motoring more accessible and will allow more Namibians to benefit from this innovative powertrain configuration, which offers notable benefits both in terms of performance and fuel economy.

Pupkewitz Haval aims to launch the new hybrid electric vehicle, which is anticipated to retail between N$500 000 for the entry-level model to N$610 000 for the top of the range, by at least 12 February. The dealership is also expected to unveil the new Haval Jolion Sport at the same time.

The Haval Jolion HEV is an innovative self-charging vehicle that can adapt to its driving environment and features redefined intelligent and innovative technology that creates a noticeably different and new hybrid experience.

The Jolion HEV is differentiated from the rest of the Jolion range by LED Premium Vision headlights and fog lights that now feature blue accents, a standout diamond front grille, a redesigned front bumper, silver roof rails that mimic its natural lines, flared rear brake lights, a sporty rear diffuser and dual vent rear spoilers. 17 or 18-inch sports alloy wheels round off the package, depending on the specification grade. All these features combine to deliver a visual experience that is stylish, distinctive and bold.

The Jolion HEV features a 1.5-litre hybrid drivetrain that combines a petrol engine with an electric motor. Sophisticated power balancing allows the vehicle to operate solely on electric power or through a combination of the electric motor and the internal combustion engine.

During normal driving, when certain parameters are met, pure electric power is seamlessly activated. Once increased speed and acceleration is required, the internal combustion engine is activated and supplies extra power. The Jolion HEV can seamlessly transfer between configurations including EV, Series Hybrid, Parallel Hybrid and Regeneration depending on the driving conditions and driver input.

A Dedicated Hybrid Transmission (DHT) combines the outputs of the internal combustion engine and the hybrid system, resulting in a total power output of 140kW and 375Nm. Unique for this segment and for hybrid vehicles is a performance inspired launch control system that facilitates rapid acceleration from standstill. The Haval Jolion HEV is capable of using as little as 5.0 litres per 100km, taking fuel consumption to a previously unimagined level.

The driver is also able to tailor the power delivery experience via a variety of driving modes including Standard, Eco, Sports and Snow. Steering wheel feel is customisable thanks to three Dynamic Adjustable Steering Modes.

The interior offers ample legroom for all passengers and generous boot space. Heated front seats, a six-way electrically adjustable driver’s seat and a four-way mechanically adjustable front passenger seat ensure optimum comfort. Premium, soft touch materials and a sophisticated, modern design create a cabin that leaves nothing to be desired.

The Haval Jolion HEV is available in Luxury and Super Luxury variants, both of which offer equal measures of styling superiority and high levels of specification.

Smart keyless entry with push button start, a panoramic sunroof that adds space and dimension to the already roomy cabin, a seven-inch colour instrument cluster and wireless charging are standard on both Luxury and Super Luxury models. Luxury models feature a soft-to-the-touch 10.25-inch Multimedia Touch Display. Super Luxury derivatives feature 12.3inch Multimedia Touch Display and a Head-Up Display.

In the interests of safety, all Haval Jolion HEV models feature an Electronic Stability System, Traction Control, ABS and EBD. Passenger safety is ensured thanks to dual front, side and curtain airbags.

All models are also fitted with AntiRoll System and Secondary Collision Mitigation, Uphill and Downhill Assist, Tyre Pressure Monitoring System and Rear Parking Sensors.

In addition, Super Luxury models feature a 360-degree panoramic camera, Adaptive Cruise Control, Traffic Jam Assist and Intelligent Turning Assist, Lane Departure Alert, Lane Keeping Assist, Traffic Sign Recognition, Blind Spot Detection and Lane Change Assist. Several innovative driver assistance technologies are also present. Intelligent Dodge is a Smart Collision Avoidance System that, when activated will control the vehicle to ensure that a safe distance is kept when overtaking large vehicles. Once the vehicle has moved past a truck or long vehicle, it will return to its correct position between the lane lines. Rear Collision Warning will trigger an alarm when another vehicle is approaching at a higher speed. The driver will be alerted with double flashes and a warning tone, to assist in avoiding rearend collisions.

Automatic Emergency Braking allows the driver to avoid danger by a braking vehicle or sudden movements of a pedestrian or cyclist at slower speeds by starting to brake automatically to prevent a collision or at least limit its impact when driving at speeds below 60km/h.
