RMR donates towards boxing championship
Reptile Mineral Resources (RMR) and Exploration on Wednesday donated boxing gear valued at N$25 000 towards the upcoming National Amateur Boxing Championships set for 22-26 March in Swakopmund.
The championships are this year hosted by the Erongo Boxing Federation (EBF), whichis expected to host 45 young amateur boxers from across the country.
An additional donation of headgear, mouth and groin guards and gloves, among other items, was made to the Albertus Boxing Academy to which many young amateur boxers belong.
RMR, as the main partner for this year’s championships, will also cover the accommodation costs of all the boxers and coaches taking part in the championship.
RMR Exploration manager Katrin Kärner said the donated items which consist of medals, competition headgear, as well chest, mouth and groin guards, will help enhance the selection of young boxing talent: boxers who are expected to represent Namibia at the African Boxing Championship as a qualifying round for the 2024 Summer Olympics Games in France.
“Amateur boxing plays an important role in Namibia as a sport that promotes physical
fitness, mental toughness and national pride. It further provides opportunities for young boxers to develop their skills and compete at the highest level,” she noted.
Kärner emphasised RMR’s continuous support towards the development of such talents in the sport.
Vice chairman of the EBF Tangeni Amuthenu said the donation will, among others, relieve the federation, as the host, in ensuring there are enough competition prizes as well as accommodation for the boxers and coaches from across the country.
“It would also give us the muchneeded
confidence to defend the championship title which we have won for the last four consecutive years,” he explained.
EBF Head Coach and founder of the Albertus Boxing Academy founder Albertus Tsamaseb expressed gratitude towards RMR’s donation and sponsorships over
the years.
“The donation enables the ability to protect our boxers and promote fair play, which is a requirement in order to meet certain standards in boxing. It also prevents unfair advantage from gear that may be more advanced than others,” Tsamaseb expressed.
