Isaacs: We need points not good games

- Hesron Kapanga

Black Africa (BA) coach Brian Isaacs says playing a good game is not as crucial as collecting points from games at this stage of the season when his team continues fighting the relegation axe.

BA has won the Namibia Premiership title on 10 occasions; four of those titles with Isaacs. They currently find themselves 15th out of a 16-team Debmarine Namibia Premiership. The Katutura-based outfit is on 17 points from 21 matches played thus far.

On Sunday, Isaacs told Nampa that as a team, they have improved, but what is needed is to start capitalising on created opportunities.

“We need results at the moment. At this stage of the league, we need points to start moving up the table because good performances in games won’t move us from the bottom,” he said.

The coach also said with the resumption of the league for the second round, they added experienced and skilful players to their squad.

“We added youth and experienced players to our squad but they are lacking confidence as some of these experienced players are not coming to the party, nor do they have the confidence to start making us win games,” Isaacs said.

He stated that he is confident and hopeful that his current squad will get them out of the relegation zone by the end of the 2022/23 Debmarine Namibia Premiership season.

“If the players start playing to their full potential, we will get out of the bottom of the log, but it’s becoming more difficult with every game we play. And we can’t be strict with our players as that will add more pressure, and we will then start losing points if they are pressured to win,” he said.

After Rounds 21 and 22 of the Premiership, African Stars are top of the log with 58 points; 17 points clear of second-placed Blue Waters who are on 41 points from 21 games.

Citizens are bottom in 16th place with four points from 21 games. Eleven Arrows occupy the last relegation position at 14 with 19 points.

The 2022/23 Debmarine Namibia Premiership season is expected to end in May 2023.
