Rape on the increase

Women and children continue to suffer sexual abuse by male perpetrato­rs. Over the weekend, four women, including an 11-year-old girl, were raped by known and unknown men who had sexual intercours­e with them without their consent.

The Namibian Police indicated that a 38-year-old Zambian national was arrested for raping the 11-year-old Namibian girl at Latelela village in the Kasheshe area of the Zambezi region.

It is alleged that the suspect had forceful sexual intercours­e with the victim several times without her consent between last year and May this year.

The suspect is expected to appear in the Katima Mulilo Magistrate’s Court this week.

In a separate incident, a 20-year-old woman was allegedly raped at the Loving Inn club in Karasburg, //Kharas region, over the weekend.

It is alleged that the suspect unlawfully and intentiona­lly had sexual intercours­e with the complainan­t without her consent. The suspect has not been arrested yet, and police investigat­ions continue.

In yet another incident, a 30-year-old woman fell victim to rape at the hands of a 21-yearold Namibian man in the open field at the Sigone village in the Kavango West region on Friday.

It’s alleged that the suspect threatened to hit the victim with a bottle, and then had sexual intercours­e with her by force. The suspect was arrested, and police investigat­ions continue.

A 28-year-old Namibian female was allegedly raped by a 35-year-old Namibian male at Efidi Lyomulunga village in the Ongwediva district, Oshana region.

It’s alleged that the suspect broke into the complainan­t’s house with a hammer and wheel spanner, and found the victim asleep with her one-year-old baby boy.

The suspect pushed the complainan­t into the toilet and raped her, and thereafter took her flat-screen TV, a cellphone and N$600 cash. The suspect was arrested, while the TV and cell phone were also recovered. Police investigat­ions continue.
