Oli's meaningful flexibility

- By Our Reporter

Many have never expected that CPNUML chairman KP Sharma Oli will become so flexible that he will visit Madhav Kumar Nepal, the chairman of the CPN (Unified Socialist), in the course of forming the present ruling coalition. Oli who had not spoken with Nepal after May 2021, reached Nepal's home twice and agreed to include the CPN (unified Socialist) in the government giving important portfolios. Even Oli became liberal towards Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal and did not bargain for important ministries. Now UML is in the government but without taking important ministries. He even agreed to give up the post of Deputy Chairman of the Upper House to CPN (Unified Socialist).

All the flexibilities exhibited by Oli look strategic, as his main goal was to break the NC-Maoist alliance, which he accomplished. Now he might have planned to consolidate power so that his party could emerge as the largest party in elections.

As Oli keeps his ego for a long time, he can also use and throw PM Dahal and Madhav Kumar Nepal at any time by ending their political life. If Oli lets the present coalition continue for some sometime until it fails to deliver at all, he can join the NC to form the new government. If such a thing happens, Dahal and Nepal will become politically helpless, because, without support from NC or UML, these two parties cannot win elections.

So the flexibility shown by Oli looks mysterious although the UML leaders have interpreted it as a correction of the past mistakes committed by Oli.
