Derek Cheng is a New Zealand-born journalist, photographer, and dirtbag climber whose work has been published in Asia, Canada, USA, the UK, Australia and New Zealand. He has spent six of the last eight years on the road, scaling rock faces in all corners of the world from the hallowed granite walls of Yosemite, to the 3D limestone of Turkey, to the sandstone giants of Morocco. He has been climbing for about 10 years, but did not really consider himself a climber until he lived in a van and drove from crag to crag in New Zealand’s beautiful and rugged South Island.
