Go for gold!
Eating burnt toast could increase your risk of cancer, according to new research. When starchy foods are cooked at high temperatures, a chemical compound called acrylamide is formed and studies on mice have shown that high levels of it can cause neurological damage and cancer. While studies on humans are inconclusive, the advice when cooking toast is to go for gold, not black. The warning also applies to other overcooked starchy foods such as potatoes.
