YULE LADS
In the lead-up to Christmas, children in Iceland leave a shoe on the window sill for the Yule Lads, a cheeky version of Santa. The Lads put sweets in the shoes of good children, or a rotten potato if they’ve been bad. There’s also the mythical giantess Gryla, who boils naughty children alive, and her bloodthirsty black feline, the Christmas Cat.
