My favourite pet growing up…

My sky blue budgie named Rodger, who would sit on my shoulder and kiss my neck, and when he said ‘Pretty boy’, he sounded exactly like my great-grandma, which was a tad spooky once she passed away. He was good friends with our dog and also, we discovered, probably a female. It’s very hard to tell with budgies.

The most memorable overseas adventure I’ve had is…

A trip to Mexico with my husband for my 30th. Fish tacos and ice-cold cervezas [beer] on the beach is my idea of a great time.

When I’m working hard, I unwind by…

Spending time with my family. My children aren’t exactly relaxing but they are very smoochable and good for the soul.

My most prized possession is…

A miraculous medal I got from my husband on our wedding day. They caught my eye while we were travelling through Spain but we were backpacking and it seemed extravagant to buy a gold necklace, so I ended up leaving without one. James surprised me with it during his speech at our wedding. It was very romantic and a total tear-jerker.

The things I need for a perfect summer’s night are…

A gin and tonic, friends and a babysitter.

The New Zealand location where I like to spend my summer holiday is…

The Coromandel. Swimming in the sea is my absolute fave and Coromandel beaches are glorious.

The quality I look for in a close friend is…

Empathy, I think. And non-judgmentalness. LOL, is there an easier way of saying that?!

The living person I most admire is…

My mum. That’s probably a total cliché but she’s the best human I know and I would be lost without her.
