meals that look after your gut and immune system

Looking after your gut could be the most important aspect of maintaining long-term overall health and wellness. The Australian Women’s Weekly’s latest cookbook, Inner Health, is loaded with common-sense tips and recipes to nourish a healthy digestive system.

The Australian Women’s Weekly’s

Inner Health cookbook health advisor, nutritionist and dietitian Larina Robinson, says our digestive system is one of the most powerful influencers of our health, impacting our body in a multitude of ways. The direct connection your gut has with your brain makes it essentially a secondary control system, influencing the overall health and functioning of your body.

It’s important to keep in mind that the food you choose to eat is what becomes food for your gut bacteria, too. When you consume food your gut bacteria love, they will help to digest the food you eat and produce short-chain fatty acids, including butyrate. These short-chain fatty acids are believed to influence your risk of chronic diseases.

So what is the best way to look after your gut and enjoy the benefits? Nourishing yourself with a variety of wholesome foods. However, some foods are more beneficial than others, so if you’re not sure where to start then this is the perfect place.
