Jacinda & Meghan

-

Meghan, speaking at an event celebrating our suffragette past, demonstrated just what a superb public speaker she is, starting her speech with a tentative “tēnā koutou katoa”, which was cheered by the audience at Government House. She spoke passionately about how feminism is about fairness, and included a quote by Kate Sheppard in her conclusion. Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern, whom the pair had met earlier, beamed at Meghan and later was heard telling the Duchess that her speech had been “perfect”. Jacinda spent a lot of time with the Royals, including at black-tie events and walking in Auckland’s Viaduct, where the Prime Minister helped collect gifts given to the couple.
