My favourite pet growing up was… Bro, my grey tabby cat. His sibling was Sis, my brother’s cat. He was the runt of the litter and she used to swat him in the face, until he grew and swatted back at her and she never messed with him again!

The last concert I went to was… Last month in Sweden, we had a night off on tour and saw Justin Townes Earle. He played solo with only a cheap and nasty little acoustic guitar, no pedals, and sounded like a full band. Blew my mind. The item I would save from a fire is… If it was just me and nobody else to rescue, my journals and photos. I’ve kept a written journal since I was a kid. Since having children, I’ve kept photo journals. The film or book that changed my life is… While on tour with my family band in my teens, I found a dog-eared copy of Loretta Lynn’s autobiography Coal Miner’s Daughter in a second-hand bookshop and it stayed with me on the road for 10 years, inspiring me to pick up a guitar and write my own songs. We played a festival with her when I was

18 and she signed it. It moved to New Zealand [from Canada] with me and lives on my bookshelves in my lounge. The three books I’m lining up to read next

are… I currently have three on the go: Becoming by Michelle Obama, Dear Mrs Bird by A.J. Pearce, and How Music Works by David Byrne, which I’ve had on my bedside table for about 18 months and dip into periodically when I’m between books and home between tours

(it’s too heavy to travel with!).

The fictional character that most reminds me of myself is… I was obsessed with Anne of Green Gables (and all the books by L.M. Montgomery) as a child, reading the entire series through, starting back at the first book once completed. I wanted to dye my hair red, move to Prince Edward Island and become a writer. I guess one out of three ain’t bad!

If I could invent one thing, it would be… An invention that causes people to feel the exact same pain they inflict on others or the joy they ignite in people by their actions. I think that would put a stop to the destruction of our planet and all the other horrific things people who are victimised endure.

The things I need for a perfect night in are... NETFLIX, THAI TAKEAWAYS AND ICE-CREAM IN BED WITH MY HUBS.
