New ideas for compact models

- By Colin Smith

Toyota is doubling the choice of C-HR compact crossover models with the addition of new Limited grade variants.

The C-HR was launched in April 2017 with a single specification and the choice of front-wheeldrive and all-wheel-drive variants.

Originally priced at $37,990 (FWD) and $39,990 (AWD), the C-HR is much more competitively positioned since the April 1 Toyota Drive Happy price re-alignment at $32,990 and $34,990 respectively for the standard models.

The new Limited grade is also available in front-drive and AWD versions and carries a $2500 premium.

The specification upgrade adds a leather accented interior, heated front seats, powered lumbar adjustment of the driver’s seat, smart key entry and push button start plus distinctive cabin trim and illumination.

The bold styling of the C-HR Limited can be further enhanced with a $400 two-tone paint option consisting of a black roof, rear spoiler, A-pillars and exterior mirrors. It is available with five of the eight body colours the C-HR comes in — the combinations are black with Crystal Pearl, Shadow Platinum, Ruby, Sun Fusion and the newly added Nebula Blue.

The C-HR was the first Toyota model to introduce a smallcapacity direct injection turbocharged petrol engine. The 1.2-litre turbo four-cylinder unit develops maximum power of 85kW at 5200-5600rpm and has peak torque of 185Nm available from 1500-4000rpm.

The front-drive models have combined cycle fuel consumption of 6.4L/100km with the AWD versions are rated at 6.5L/100km. The C-HR requires 95-octane fuel.

In both front-drive and AWD models there is a Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT) which has a sequential shift mode that provides seven steps which can be manually selected.

All C-HR variants come with 18-inch alloy wheels featuring a two-tone machine finish and shod with 225/50 R18 tyres.

Dual zone climate control air conditioning, LED headlights, rain sensing wipers, blind spot monitor with rear cross traffic alert, satellite navigation with SUNA traffic updates, front and rear parking sensors and seven airbags are part of the C-HR standard specification.

The Toyota Safety Sense package is standard including a Pre-Crash Safety system with Autonomous Emergency Braking, Automatic High Beam, Lane Departure Alert and Dynamic Radar Cruise Control.

The Toyota Drive-away pricing includes WOF, registration, a full tank of fuel, the Toyota Care Service Advantage package, floor mats, and the three years or 100,000km warranty.
