The New Zealand Government has expressed deep disappointment as China passes a controversial new national security law for Hong Kong. Beijing says it’s in response to last year’s often-violent prodemocracy protests. But Foreign Affairs Minister Winston Peters said it was a critical moment for fundamental human rights and freedoms.
