There are a number of official releases by Statistics New Zealand this week, highlighted by national population estimates as at June 30, 2022, which are being released tomorrow. There will be waste management and minimisation plan and waste bylaw deliberations at the conclusion of the council meeting as part of a Strategy, Finance and Risk Committee meeting.

There are several Bay of Plenty Regional Council meetings this week, starting with Komiti Ma¯ ori tomorrow at 9.30am. There are Regional Public Transport Plan Subcommittee hearings from 1.30pm on Wednesday and again from 11am on Friday, a Strategy and Policy meeting at 9.30am on Thursday and a Te Maru o Kituna River Authority meeting at 9.30am on Friday.

Road works

Retaining walls are being constructed on State Highway 2 between Apata Station and Esdaile Rds from tomorrow. For the safety of road users, Waka Kotahi NZ Transport Agency staff will be on site, and to provide enough space for large machinery there will be a stop-go in place from 9am to 4pm for around three weeks. This is likely to cause delays of up to five minutes.

Weather outlook

Metservice says there is low confidence that a heavy rain warning will be needed for the Bay of Plenty on Thursday as a ridge of high pressure retreated to the east today. A strong moist northerly flow is due to develop today, with multiple fronts embedded within the flow to impact the country the rest of the week bringing heavy rain and gale northeasterlies to the north and west of both islands.
