BROADENING HORIZONS

WHEN GISBORNE COUPLE Kim and Debbie Currie decided to update their Riviera 43 Flybridge, Spindrift, purchased through Riviera NZ, Kim knew what he wanted: a bigger, later model boat with a fully glassed flybridge and low hours, to suit the open waters of the east coast.

Kim and Debbie first met Chris Janes from Riviera NZ at a new product presentation by Electronic Navigation in the R Marine showroom in Westhaven, Auckland in April. They expressed a desire to upgrade to a bigger Riviera model that would comfortably accommodate extended adventures out on the water.

Given the strength of the New Zealand dollar against the Australian dollar, Kim had been thinking about sourcing a vessel in Australia and shipping it back home. After a lengthy conversation with friend and game fishing legend Fred Lewis, Kim decided definitely to look in Australia and took Fred’s advice: “Don’t do it yourself. Get the experts to source it for you – they have the experience to make it a hassle-free purchase.”

It was sound advice as it would cost no more than buying direct and, in most cases, saves time and money.

Kim got back in touch with Chris Janes and discussed his and Debbie’s requirements for the vessel. Within a week, using his contacts within the R Marine dealership network, Chris had found three vessels for Kim and Debbie to consider. A week later the couple headed off to Sydney to view the boats with Chris. After careful consideration they chose a beautiful Riviera 47 fullyenclosed flybridge named Belligerence. Chris took care of the sale of the vessel as well as shipping and Customs documentation.

While the vessel was in Australia the trio cruised Sydney Harbour, exploring the waterways and observing whales and dolphins in open waters before the boat was taken to Newcastle for shipping to New Zealand. If you’re looking for a particular vessel, local or overseas, owning your next boat may be easier than you think. Give Chris Janes a call on 027 451 3131 or visit the showroom at 23 Westhaven Drive, Westhaven, Auckland.
