Hobie’s pedal power

-

IF YOU FANCY the idea of joining the paddle board fraternity – but don’t fancy what the action might do to your back – well, Hobie has come to the rescue.

The company – world-renowned for its iconic 16- and 18-foot catamarans – has just launched a range of paddle boards called the Mirage Eclipse. The major difference is that you pedal rather than paddle them – and there are convenient “handle bars” to help you maintain your balance and dignity. All good news. The bad news, unfortunately, is that the Eclipse has become an overnight global sensation, to the point where the US company is struggling to produce them fast enough to supply all its distributors.

Fortunately for New Zealand, where the boards are distributed by The Water Shed on Auckland’s North Shore, a shipment has been secured and will be arriving well in time for the Auckland on the Water Boat Show on 29th September. Visit the Show and you will be able to book a demo.

The Eclipse is available in two sizes – 10 feet 5 inches and 12 feet. The smaller model is designed for bodies weighing up to 100kg and the 12-footer up to 125kg. They come in two colours: Lunar Blue (with Solar Yellow Graphics) and Solar Yellow with Lunar Blue Graphics.

A small model with set you back $4,250 , the bigger one $4,430. For more information call 09 489 6475 or email: shop@nzwatershed.co.nz.
