HIGH- PERFORMANCE CRUISER A SHOWSTOPPER
Shearwater, a stunning 57-foot highperformance carbon cruiser with electric propulsion, was launched in Sydney recently after a three-year build.
Kit Carlier Design worked with German (Mani) Frers and innovative boat builder Mcconaghy Boats, Australia, on many aspects of the boat’s design, from the boat’s concept phase to installation of the interior fitout of the project.
Commissioned by a client who expected the best, the aspirational, multi-faceted project was guided by the principle that a cruising yacht shouldn’t have to compromise on performance.
“The key structural elements of this extreme-performance yacht, including the ability to be sailed single-handed, were blended with a soft palette of luxurious and natural interior finishes. This included the pairing of natural teak flooring with rich, walnut cabinetry and matte-finished carbon features,” says Kit Carlier, Director of Kit Carlier Design.
“The open-plan layout boasts a customisable configuration, specifically tailored to the client’s entertaining style.”
Unnecessary weight was removed by replacing heavy items with custom carbon alternatives for areas such as vanities and toilets.
The yacht features two hightech electric sail-drives with hydroregeneration capacity, solar panels and a waste treatment system.
