Ramblerz love Dunedin adventure
Ruahine Ramblerz marchers recently returned from a weekend of leisure marching hosted by Dunedin teams at the 26th National Leisure Marching Event, held in the MoreFM Arena, Edgar Centre.
There were 65 teams participating from all over New Zealand with the official opening held on Friday March 23 2018.
The teams took part in the march past, saluting David Cull, Mayor of Dunedin.
Ruahine Ramblerz were drawn sixth and marched on the Friday afternoon in front of a very large crowd.
Coach Elaine Lawson said the team excelled themselves, doing the best march ever and she was proud of the team for their dedication and commitment over the past 12 months.
The team received a grant from the Eastern & Central Community Trust to fund their newly acquired hoodies which were needed in Dunedin’s cooler temperatures.
The stayed overnight in Wellington before heading off to Dunedin for the competition.
They spent Thursday seeing the sights of Dunedin, enjoying a gourmet lunch at the Glenfalloch Gardens Restaurant and a tour of Larnach Castle.
They also went shopping in the city and took in more sights of Dunedin once they had competed.
Walking Baldwin Street, the country’s steepest street, was a must on some of the women’s to-do list, and three members walked up it.
Member Karen Keen was determined and made it to the top and back again.
Pam Bassett and Cath Watson made it half way before returning to the bottom.
The Dunedin Railway Station was another on the team’s to-do list, with some members visiting the Sports Hall of Fame, while others took in the culinary delights of the local Food Market held at the station.
How could anyone visit Dunedin and not have a visit to the Cadbury’s Shop & Museum? The team’s visit coincided with the last shift making pineapple lumps in New Zealand, so it was another must for the visitors.
