Several new stalls for April’s market
How about some vinyl disk artwork or some novelty knitted decoupage? Perhaps some buxus hedging plants or some unique wooden toys.
April’s Dannevirke Community Market will have these new stalls along with a multitude of regulars and one or two surprises.
Organiser Daphne Miller is hoping April will be as successful as the March Easter/autumn-themed market where customers opened their wallets and purses and spent enthusiastically.
As the Easter bunny did its rounds and Tom Kamura’s band pumped out its harmonies, a big crowd early on sought the bargains. Jams and preserves were popular, from Dannevirke Art Society and Anglican Church stalls and a newcomer from Maraekakaho selling Elsgrove Olives and Nuts, jellies, citrus conserves and chutneys.
Woodwork from John Robertson, Joe Dodunski, Bobby Kopa, Chris Elliott and Paul Booth had more competition, 13-year-old Shaun Means offering his poker worked items.
There were plants and garden ornaments and cut flower posies by Jill Scrimshaw.
With winter starting to bite, cones sold well at $5 per bag and Ray Ingram from Norsewood was selling kindling at $6 per box. Ray can be contacted at 374 0757.
Come along to the market on April 28. Dannevirke Highland Pipe Band will entertain, there’s the Lions sausage sizzle and other food stalls and carts — and you might just get a bargain.
