More young swimmers training at the club to lift their skills

-

Pahiatua Swimming Club has got a long history and we all should be proud of having a swimming club in our town.

The opportunity for local swimmers being able to train and get to their best form for school swimming sports should always be available.

This year we had 28 children enrolled with Learn to Swim, and 78 through Swimming Club.

Normal pool temperatures meant swimming club got off to a flying start, as well as our three adult coaches having a day at a coaches’ training course all our swimmers have lifted their skills in diving, streamlining, turns and sculling. We had the busiest race nights and some outstanding swims, I was wowed by how well the athletes did. We had six heats of the 100m Individual Medley. The normal is two heats.

This is my sixth year as a president and head coach. I have a passion for swimming and love seeing young people enjoying the water, learning to swim and getting fit all at once. It’s great to see the other adult coaches with the same passion thoroughly enjoying the coaching. Pahiatua Swimming Club is run by volunteer coaches and support team for Learn To Swim — Abby Bailey, Bridget Gavigan, Sophie and Katie Oswald, Sam Anderson, Rachel and Amanda Bradbury, Ellie Moore, Adam Arbuthnott, Dana and Cadie Broughton, Charlotte MacFarquer, Daniel Turrill, Savanna Pardy and Polly Wolland. Coaches for Buckets & Squads: Dana Broughton Bucket 1, Bucket 3 and Junior Squads, Kerri Moore Bucket 2, Sam Anderson Bucket 1. This club has dedicated committee members — Julie Woodmass, Kerri Moore, Dana Broughton, Rita Petaera, Ceri Treder who helped out in many ways to ensure smooth running.
