Board supports community groups Assistance Grants allocated for a variety of community organisati­ons’ activities

Dannevirke’s Community Board initiates developmen­ts and supports activities and organisati­ons for the betterment of the community.

At its April 3 meeting it allocated funds from the General Assistance Grants Scheme to the tune of just over $8000 and reserved for further investigat­ion requests for a further $2500.

Those receiving funds in this round were:

■ Dannevirke and District Home Budgeting Service — $2500;

■ Dannevirke Gallery of History — $2000;

■ Raumati Hall Committee — $1500;

■ Friends of Epiphany — $930;

■ Dannevirke Basketball Associatio­n — $855;

■ St Vincent de Paul — $750;

■ IHow Charitable Trust — $160.

The Community Board provided funding for the Dannevirke Informatio­n Centre’s Viking Icon facelift being carried out by the Menz Shed and funded a bike stand for Barraud Street near the Countrywid­e Bank.

Gloria MacDonald is busy organising the Anzac Concert planned for 3pm on Anzac Day April 25 on behalf of the Community Board. was last year, with the audience paying a gold coin for entry.

Looking ahead the Community Board is working with organisati­ons to resurrect the Spring Festival with the plan to run it from September 1 to October 31.

Its World War I committee is planning events to celebrate the centenary of the end of World War I in November 1918.
