An inter-galactic show — Pahiatua’s is ready for the stage

- By JUSTIN ANGOVE

Light swords and laser blasters, space pirates and galactic dictators!

If exciting space adventure is your thing, Pahiatua Repertory Society’s latest theatrical extravaganza Starblaze is sure to please.

For over 10 weeks now the eager young cast and well experienced crew of Starblaze have been honing their stage show, ‘warming up the warp drive’ to ensure you’ll enjoy a theatrical adventure quite unlike any other.

“Starblaze is an exciting and entertaining story of good versus evil, played out the distant reaches of a faraway galaxy,” the show’s director, Ngaire Ngatuere says. “It’s a fun tale of heroines, villains and mysterious creatures, set to some very catchy rock music that’ll have you foot tapping throughout the show.”

Following a string of successful adult-cast shows, Ngaire and the Theatre committee recognised the need to invest in a show the community’s youth could embrace. Starblaze cast is intentionally young and ‘starry eyed’, with the youngest aged five and the eldest aged 16.

“Theatre participation is wonderful for young people.” says Ngaire.

“The benefits are wide ranging, from committing to being a part of something larger than oneself, to exercising discipline in recalling lines and stage moves. It culminates in a performance for a live audience, something amazing for self-confidence and extremely character building. We’re very proud of this great young cast, and really do hope you’ll come along and show them your support.”

Starblaze is a show to be enjoyed by all ages, onstage at the Regent Theatre Pahiatua from the June 21 through to July 1, with seven shows in total. Tickets are available now from The Boho Delhi, Main Street Pahiatua — $27 Adult, $23 Seniors/Students, $15 child, 14 years or younger, $70 two Adults plus two Children.

Door sales will be available but its anticipated tickets will sell fast. Get in early to avoid disappointment.

Help to ensure our community has a local theatre to enjoy today and into the future. Show your support for this young cast, local theatre and the efforts of the many volunteers who keep it alive for all.
