Business awards on again this year
The inaugural Southern Tararua Business Awards held two years ago were a huge hit according to one of the organisers, Shirley Hull.
They are on again this year with the support of Trevor Jackson of Jackson Enterprises — truck body and trailer manufacturers in Pahiatua, Tararua District Council and Pahiatua Chamber of Commerce.
The new organising committee of Shirley Hull, Nikki O’Leary, Lance Shearman and Joel Turner has already opened nominations, with forms available from Property Brokers in Pahiatua or cut out the form below.
It comes under the jurisdiction of Pahiatua Chamber of Commerce with Katie Harris as chair.
This year’s speaker is Jackie Clarke — entertainer, singer and comedian.
She was a judge on New Zealand Idol in 2005 and in 2016, she was named Top Female Artist by the Variety Artists Club of New Zealand.
“It should be a lot of fun on the night,” said Shirley Hull.
Nominations are open from June 5 to July 6 and the promotional campaign will run from July 23 to September 23.
Judging takes place from September 24 to October 12.
The presentation evening will be on October 13 in Woodville at the Sports Stadium.
This will give more room for ticket sales. “It’s a celebration of people and businesses with categories being the same as the inaugural event,” said Shirley.
They are: Employer of the Year, Employee of the Year, Farm Business, Rural Service, Trades, Retail and Personal, Hospitality, Learning Experience, Professional Service, Manufacturing and Engineering.
The geographical area runs from Mount Bruce in the south to Woodville in the north out to the eastern seaboard.
Judges have been chosen with business acumen and will be inspecting businesses during the judging phase.
