Norse­wood win in­ter-school cross-coun­try

More than 200 stu­dents took part in the an­nual Dan­nevirke and Dis­tricts Pri­mary School’s cross­coun­try on Thurs­day, June 21.

Af­ter rain in pre­vi­ous days Thurs­day dawned fine and the course was sur­pris­ingly firm.

St Joseph’s Pri­mary School or­gan­ised the event very well, held at the Dan­nevirke A&P Show­grounds which has ideal re­lief for a cross­coun­try event, tak­ing in the eques­trian cross-coun­try in the val­ley be­low and east of the main ring as well as the top flats.

The ju­niors started at 10.30am, the girls set­ting good times on the 1.9km course, Sasha Kent win­ning the ju­nior girls and Sam Chad­wick the ju­nior boys.

In­ter­me­di­ates fol­lowed, their course slightly ex­tended on the up­per half to to­tal 2.4km and the se­niors to 2.9km.

Norse­wood and Dis­tricts re­tained the tro­phy from last year its run­ners win­ning four of the races (in­clud­ing three from the Kent fam­ily — Sasha, Erin and Jodie with Sam Chad­wick), Ruahine and Dis­tricts com­ing sec­ond and South School third.

Re­sults: Ju­nior Girls: 1 Sasha Kent, 2 Alice Bax­ter, 3 Braven Sher­rard-Chase. Ju­nior Boys: 1 Sam Chad­wick, 2 Brae Pin­fold, 3 John Bar­row. In­ter­me­di­ate Girls: Erin Trent, 2 Meg Speedy, 3 Cait­lyn Mur­phy. In­ter­me­di­ate Boys: 1 Henry Speedy, 2 Con­nor Christian, 3 Henry Elling­ham. Se­nior Girls: Jodie Kent, 2 Kasey McKenna, 3 Pir­i­hera Hen­der­son. Se­nior Boys: 1 Thomas Bar­row, 2 Toby Walker, 3 Car­son Ma­son.
