Company triumphs at painters awards

- By DAVE MURDOCH

Martin Beveridge Ltd has triumphed at the 2018 NZ Master Painters Awards of Excellence, achieving five golds and five highly commended awards plus winning two categories from its ten entries.

The awards were held at the Gondola Restaurant overlooking Queenstown in a glitzy Black Tie event, June 7-9.

Five members of Martin Beveridge Ltd attended: Moana, Raymond and wife Saskia, Mark Gibson and Tama Petera and they thoroughly enjoyed the three day event set in beautiful Queenstown amongst the snow.

Moana said she was delighted to attend the event which started on Thursday with the NZ Master Painters Board meeting which Raymond attended and the social evening which followed.

At the awards night on Friday evening she was thrilled to have Martin Beveridge win recognition for all of its 10 entries with five golds and five highly commended, plus winning two categories (see below).

On Saturday she was honoured to attend the Master Builders Apprentice of the Year dinner to present the Martin Beveridge Award, this year going to a BCITO apprentice in Palmerston North.

Entries for the awards had to be based on work started after December 2016 and completed by November 2017, submitted by January 31.

She said success was partly due to having very good projects with which to demonstrate their quality of workmanship and the company was delighted to receive so many opportunities. Raymond has visited each award winner in their homes and businesses to present their certificate.

Moana says success is mostly due to the high standard of workmanship by the 16 staff, most of whom had been apprentices with the company. Martin had always focused on training staff in good habits and currently there are five apprentices.

Two staff had recently gone on in the industry, one as an instructor at the BCITO and another going into business for himself and Martin had always encouraged that, Moana said.

Moana says Martin Beveridge Ltd is a small company by New Zealand standards but big in Dannevirke as an employer. She says it nurtures its staff, ensuring there is a 50/50 mix on local and out of town work, and they repay with loyalty.
