-

Funding of $500,000 from Central Government’s Provincial Growth Fund (PGF) will allow the Tararua Alliance to contract out the felling of roadside and dangerous trees on Route 52 to contractor’s within our district.

The work is designed to stimulate business in Tararua following the Covid-19 lockdown and council will be working with The Integral Group to assist with the procurement process.

! said seven to eight groups have put their name into the pool

“Our preference is for local businesses, as the criteria for the " of workers and skills,” he said. “We want to stretch this $500,000 and to grow Tararua, ensuring everyone gets a slice of the pie.”

The trees need to be felled for road safety, powerline safety and to protect the resilience of key routes on council’s roading network and under the requirements of the PGF funding the work must be completed within six months.

“We will begin some tree felling and trimming straight away, but the remainder of the work will be weather dependant and will be carried out after winter,” Suppiah said
