LABOUR HERITAGE

-

While I agree with Vince Ashworth ( Cambridge Edition July 13) about the uninspiring National government, I just can’t include Douglas and Prebble as great Labour leaders.

They were the knife in the back of not only David Lange and the 1984 Labour government, but the whole labour movement. Those free market experiments must have been the envy of the National Party of the time.

These experiments are the reason we have a low wage economy. Apart from Helen Clarke’s New Labour movement, successive National governments with the help of the Douglas ACT Party, have made sure that the gap between rich and poor is ever increasing.

Where’s the ‘‘level playing field’’? And I’m more likely to believe in the tooth fairy than the trickle down effect!
