Teacher puts science first for students
It’s a back-to-back win for St Peter’s Cambridge this year as Sara Loughnane wins the Wintec Secondary Science Teacher/Educator/Communication Award.
Science Faculty Head Sarah Hay’s won it last year.
Managing the delivery of NCEA and International Baccalaureate science programmes at St Peter’s means Sara (pictured) is involved across many facets of science at the school.
Lead teacher in the gifted and talented area of the school, she has successfully run a scholarship biology programme improving the number of students attaining scholarship level. She also organises the school’s three day Eco-Blitz camp where students are able to learn from support of Lincoln University scientist. Students then visit Lincoln to carry on their research.
As a keen developer of resources Sara is able to incorporate these into the St Peter’s Science Learning Hub. She is also a leading figure in the Waikato Science Teachers Assn.
