St Peter’s ride to second at jumping day
The October rain came to a end just in time for the North Island Secondary School Show Jumping Championships at St Peter’s School.
The Taupo Nui A Tia team had a decisive win with 47 points over St Peter’s Red, which came second with 28 points.
Diocesan Auckland was third with 26 points, followed by Pio Poo College on 25 points.
Cambridge High School Blue came 5th with 20 points and Waikato Diocesan was 6th with 18 points.
St Peter’s equestrian coach Kay Hogan said Elise Stables was their stand out individual.
‘‘She was riding for St Peter’s Red and was our top points scorer on 16.5 points,’’ she said.
Cambridge High School equestrian coach Kelly Maclarn was also pleased with her teams.
‘‘Team blue took away 5th place which was a great result as three are juniors (year 9-10) and a year 11 student.
‘‘They were a young team that put in some great rides.’’
She said Briar Read came third in the accumulator, and rode in the jigsaw with Julia Wykes.
‘‘And Brooke Bennett and Rebecca Loyd rode consistently in all three rounds, clear in all three rounds picking up points in each,’’ said Maclarn.
Olivia Forster came 4th in the accumulator, and 6th with Katelyn Steens in the jigsaw.
It was the final inter-schools event run by St Peter’s but the school will host several more open events before the end of the year.
St Peter’s will host practise show jumping days on Sunday, October 29 and Sunday, November 20, a Spring Dressage Tourna- ment on Sunday, November 6 and on the weekend of December 3 and 4, Pukete Show Jumping will hold its one star show at the grounds.
