Walking for a good cause
They are holding a fundraising trivia night.
A group of former Cambridge Edition staff members are tying their laces and walking for charity.
The Oxfam Trailwalker New Zealand is part of an international series, with 16 events held in 11 countries.
The organisation works with families and communities to equip them with tools and resources to achieve their basic human rights, from water sanitation to education and livelihoods.
The walking group have named themselves ‘‘Limited Edition’’ and three out of four members of the group are former Cambridge Edition staff.
It consists of Rachel Haakma, Paula Baxter, Kimberley Booth and Scott Taylor Moore.
The Oxfam Trailwalker began in New Zealand in 2006, and since then 10,000 participants have lined up and raised more than $8.3 million.
There are two different walks, the 50 kilometre over 18 hours and the 100 kilometre over 36 hours.
They are doing the latter, and each member of the team must complete the whole 100 kilometres.
‘‘I gave this a go three years ago and my body gave up at the 75km mark,’’ said team member Paula Baxter.
‘‘I intend to cross the finish line this time around.’’
It will be held in Whakatane on March 25 - 26.
As part of their fundraising the team is holding a trivia night on Friday, February 10 at Stables Bar on Alpha St in Cambridge.
It is $150 a table/team, with the chance to win that money back as well as a $100 bar tab.
There will also be a special auction for boxing gloves signed by heavy weight champion Joseph Parker.
