Big crowd expected for festival

- MIKE BAIN

The signs for a great weekend are literally everywhere.

The weather forecast is looking good and arrangements are being made among friends to meet up at the Cambridge Chow and Tipple on Saturday.

Looking to fill the void of food, beer and wine festivals in the Waikato, event organiser Ryan Wolf said Cambridge provides the ideal location ‘‘with its beautiful trees and awesome people, it’s a perfect location for this boutique festival’’.

‘‘Ticket sales have been great but we are still expecting a large walk up crowd on Saturday,’’ he said.

The festival aims to present the very best the Waikato and New Zealand has to offer. From local restaurants presenting delicious food to craft brewers and wineries showing off their finest hops and grapes. Wolf is confident there is something everyone.

Being from a family of enthusiastic foodies, Wolf is excited about the quality of food vendors coming to the festival.

Festival attendees will be able to chow down culinary delights from Gourmet Delicious, Puha and Pakeha, Mizzone Pizza, Great Barrier Island Catering, Good Matters, Banh Mi Caphe, The Smoke Collective and then there is Hamilton’s Spanish restaurant La Parrilla.

The best of beer from craft breweries will be included featuring Good George, Mount Brewing, Lakeman, Shunters Yard, Three Fat Pigs, Tag, Pilot, Hot Water Breweries.

Every good food, beer and wine festival needs a host to keep you laughing, or cringing, this is to be provided by More FM’s Andrew Wright, known for his crazy antics and great sense of humour.

Up and coming singer Mitch James whose latest single, No fixed abode, has achieved a million plays on Spotify, heads a list of talented artists from around the Waikato to provide the soundtrack for the festival.

He will be supported by Daniel McIntyre ‘‘whose amazing range of music never fails to get people up and dancing’’.

‘‘Our goal is to give you a festival with a bit of a difference, you’ll find ‘pop-up restaurants’ and bars with seating, style and ambience so you can grab your chow and head back for the grass or take a seat and enjoy,’’ said Wolf.

An alcohol free Family Zone featuring food vendors, rides and entertainment will be available for the kids.
