Bachelor Contestants at Fieldays

- MIKE BAIN

Contestants in the Rural Bachelor competition at the national Fieldays this year will find themselves on the right end of urine tests.

The Rural Bachelor contestants will visit the CRV Ambreed stand on the Friday of Fieldays, to compete in a ‘‘How Low is That Nitrogen?’’ contest.

This year they will be hands-on with some LowN Sires™ ‘‘urine tests’’, but CRV Ambreed Sales and Marketing Manager Mathew Macfie explained they’ll be doing the testing, not providing the samples.

‘‘As dairy farmers will know, we have a game-changing new product on the market, called LowN Sires™, and it’s anticipated to reduce nitrogen leaching on New Zealand farms by 20% within 20 years,’’ he said.

Eight finalists mainly from the South Island will tackle a series of challenges relating to farm life, from fencing and log splitting, to dog handling and physical fitness.

The winner will walk away with a prize pool of over $20,000 and the pride of winning the coveted Golden Gumboot.

The 2017 Fieldays runs 14-17 June at Mystery Creek near Hamilton.
