Cambridge’s goals came from Mauro Pereira (2) and Andrew Thomas.

Cambridge’s tilt at the Waikato B title missed a beat when the side lost 1-0 at Otorohanga, due to a first-half goal from Trent Maguire.

The win lifted Otorohanga above Cambridge who now lie third but still with a chance of taking the division. Cambridge’s A and B teams both remain in the Soccer Shop Waikato Cup having reached the competitio­n’s quarter-finals.

Cambridge A play Melville United at home in the cup on Saturday while the B team travels to Hamilton Wanderers for a last eight tie at Porritt Stadium.

In Waikato Division D, Cambridge’s two sides played a fivegoal thriller which left the D1s with bragging rights after a 3-2 victory.

Ben Ward, Dennis Hommel and leading scorer Dave O’Donnell found the net for the D1s in a result that leaves the D2s at the foot of the table.

The Cambridge women’s first team beat Otumoetai 5-2 in the opening game of the WaiBOP Women’s Premier League, thanks to a hat trick from Kura Falleni and goals from Rebecca Brown and Rachel Westend.

Cambridge qualified for the top regional competitio­n by winning the Waikato Women’s A League, and will meet three more top Bay of Plenty teams (Tauranga City United, Whakatane Town and Rotorua United) in their quest for the regional title.

In the women’s Waikato division B, Cambridge lost 11-0 at Te Awamutu.

The Cambridge U-14 boys lost 9-0 to Rotorua United Geyser, the leading team in the WaiBOP Federation Youth League.
