Roisin’s 10km walk awaits
Cambridge mum Roisin Stuart has laced up her trainers and is ready to walk the 10 kilometre course in this year’s Remax Fun Run/Walk.
The event, which has been organised and run by the St Peter’s Catholic School for the past seven years, includes a 5km and 10km run/walk around the leafy streets of Cambridge.
There is a 2km course set aside for the school challenge on the square.
This event will be the first of its kind Stuart has entered.
Her entry centred on her friends and mother-in-law actively supporting her by being a part of it too.
Being new to the Cambridge area she entered as a fun way to help the school but also meet others in the community.
‘‘I expect it to be a fun event and to be able to encourage or be in encouraged by others along the way.’’
She described her training regime in all sorts of weather as ‘‘not overly serious, but it’s all about finishing
The Details
The Remax Fun Run/walk is on Sunday, March 11.
Entries can be made online remaxfunrun.co.nz right?’’.
The event, a finalist in the 2017 Brian Perry Sports Awards, attracts over 700 participants and early entries are on target to increase the number.
Organisers Donna Warwick and Lisa Hodgson emphasis the day is not about winning but participating.
‘‘I think because the emphasis is on the fun element is the reason why it keeps growing,’’ Warwick said.
‘‘Naturally there will be some who will be serious about their efforts, and there will be those who will dress for the occasion.’’
In previous years, teams have dressed in tutus, cleaning women, complete with the aprons, hair rollers under scarves and dustpans, and a group dressed as different coloured teardrops.
‘‘It’s been the excuse for some to dress up and have a laugh with others.’’
Victoria Square is the base for all activities Late entries will are allowed on the day from 7am for the 10km and 5km walk or run, the team challenge and the School Challenge, all completed by 9am.
