Nielsen, a leading global provider of information and insights, has released results of its latest consumer and media insights survey.

And the news is all good.

Fairfax Suburban Newspapers, publisher of the Central Leader, has maintained its number one position in the Auckland market over the last year with a weekly cumulative readership of 786,000 across its 11 surveyed mastheads.

It continues to dominate the Auckland market with 81 per cent more readers than the New Zealand Herald.

Average issue readership of Fairfax Suburban Group products in Auckland is 670,000 people aged 15-plus.

The New Zealand Herald, by comparison, has undergone a 6 per cent decline in its readership – dropping from 394,000 to 370,000 over the same period.

Fairfax Suburban Newspapers Auckland general manager David Penny says the result reflects the company’s drive to embrace the digital age with the development of online e-editions.

‘‘We are also constantly working to maintain our excellence in print and these figures demonstrate the strong connection we have with our readers. There is a huge appetite for local news and our job is to deliver that across all platforms available to us.’’
