At Roskill Union and Community Health centre the initial joining fee is just $25 for adults and $15 for six to 18 year olds. Under sixes are free.
Primary and secondary school students pay nothing for medical visits; adults pay $10 and superannuitants are charged just $5.
Registered and funded patients get access to various free services, including an interpreter, diabetes management, access to a smoking cessation clinic; women patients being eligible for free cervical smears.
All enrolled patients receive discounted afterhours White Cross medical care. ‘‘This is a huge saving for patients without access to private health insurance,’’ manager Rajnish Sethi says. ‘‘Our range of services includes midwife, physio, pharmacy and lab facilities.’’
The impressive array of services and general medical care offered by the community-owned, charity-based health clinic can be accessed by anyone living in Mt Roskill or surrounding areas.
It serves a large multicultural group of patients including Maori, European, Pacific Island, Indian, Asian and refugee populations.
Centre staff are just as culturally diverse with health professionals from Bangladesh, Seychelles China, India, Zimbabwe and New Zealand.
