At Roskill Union and Community Health centre the initial joining fee is just $25 for adults and $15 for six to 18 year olds. Under sixes are free.

Primary and secondary school students pay nothing for medical visits; adults pay $10 and superannui­tants are charged just $5.

Registered and funded patients get access to various free services, including an interprete­r, diabetes management, access to a smoking cessation clinic; women patients being eligible for free cervical smears.

All enrolled patients receive discounted afterhours White Cross medical care. ‘‘This is a huge saving for patients without access to private health insurance,’’ manager Rajnish Sethi says. ‘‘Our range of services includes midwife, physio, pharmacy and lab facilities.’’

The impressive array of services and general medical care offered by the community-owned, charity-based health clinic can be accessed by anyone living in Mt Roskill or surroundin­g areas.

It serves a large multicultu­ral group of patients including Maori, European, Pacific Island, Indian, Asian and refugee population­s.

Centre staff are just as culturally diverse with health profession­als from Bangladesh, Seychelles China, India, Zimbabwe and New Zealand.

Roskill Union and Community Health is part of the National Hauora Coalition and is a member of Healthcare Aotearoa.
