Motorists warned of busy roads
Traffic on sections of the motorway network is likely to be heavy this weekend as tens of thousands of people descend on Auckland for three large events.
A full house is expected at Eden Park for the rugby league nines tournament, a concert by American rapper Eminem at Western Springs on Saturday is sold out, and the Auckland Lantern Festival celebrating Chinese New Year is being held at Albert Park and Queen’s Wharf from Thursday until Sunday.
NZ Transport Agency national journey manager Kathryn Musgrave says motorway interchanges connecting with the city centre will be particularly busy.
Electronic messages will keep motorists informed of driving conditions, but people should consider public transport, she says.
