Round the Bays runners boost funds for charities
Seven charities will get a share of $150,000 raised at this year’s Ports of Auckland Round the Bays fun run.
Radio Lollipop, Cystic Fibrosis Association Auckland branch, Crohns and Colitis New Zealand, Kidsline, The Hearing House, Raukatauri Music Therapy Centre and Fairfax First Books will all benefit.
The annual 8.4km event is co-organised by the Auckland Joggers club and Fairfax Media, publisher of the Central Leader.
It was held on Sunday and organisers say official registrations came to nearly 35,000.
The winner of this year’s event was Jono Jackson from Auckland, who crossed the line in a time of 25 minutes and 56 seconds.
Luke Longdill from Auckland was second to finish in 28 minutes and 17 seconds.
The first woman home was Lisa Robertson from Auckland clocking in at 28:38 followed by Holly Van Dalen from Auckland in a time of 29 minutes and 36 seconds.
Isabella Powell of Cystic Fibrosis Auckland Branch was the official race starter, alongside Fairfax Media New Zealand managing director Simon Tong, leading the crowd in the traditional countdown to the starting gun at 9.30am.
‘‘It was another superb day in the long history of Round the Bays and we’re proud that it continues to be so popular,’’ Mr Tong says.
