Students showcase their trades skills

-

Trades students are preparing to show off their skills to the community at Future Skills’ Trades Training Open Day on June 26.

Future Skills is an NZQA accredited private training establishment and offers free Level 2, trades courses in carpentry, engineering and electrical engineering.

Future Skills trades programme manager Peter Mansfield says the free open day is a chance for trades students to show off the skills they have learnt.

‘‘We are very proud of our students, most of them have literally started with no formal qualifications and no trades experience whatsoever, some have never seen the inside of a trades workshop before,’’ Peter says.

‘‘Watching students transform while they train with us is simply amazing and this open day is just one way our students thought of to share their joy of learning with others who may be looking at entering the trades industry,’’ he says.

The Future Skills Trades Training Open Day will feature electrical displays and demonstrations using engineering tools, welding equipment and lathes, as well as carpentry and building in action.

The afternoon also features a free sausage sizzle. Entry to the event is free.

Students wishing to enrol on the day should bring their birth certificate or passport and proof of their address.

When: 12.30pm – 6.30pm, June 26, 2014.

Where: 15 Earl Richardson Ave, Manukau.
