Commissioners about why they are doing it.

Local people don’t accept the sort of Wellington perspective that says policing can be done by phones and computer.

When I visited Henderson shopping centre after dairy owner Arun Kumar was killed what people were asking for was an accessible community police station and a more visible presence of community constables on the street.

Mt Roskill Police Station had an enthusiastic group of community volunteers who staffed the reception area and helped the constables.

Locals appreciated the fact that if they needed to they could access the station and talk to a person not a call centre. We want the station reopened to the public, not to be told that it is just a distraction.
