Eden Roskill wins after close call
It was a see-saw affair at Keith Hay Park at the weekend as Eden Roskill came back to beat Grafton United in a reverse outright victory.
After some incredible bowling from Grafton’s Parth Patel (6/17), Eden Roskill looked to be on the back foot racking up only 124 runs in the first innings of the Tom Hellaby Trophy two-day match.
In reply Alan Burton struck his third consecutive two-day century to lead his side to 182/3 when the visitors decided to declare.
Patel caused problems for Eden Roskill once again in the second innings taking 5/53 as the hosts were dismissed for 169.
Needing only 112 for an outright victory Grafton looked poised for victory,
Eden Roskill had other plans as Azhar Abbas and Brett Randall decimated the top order bowling Grafton out just four runs short of the target.
Cornwall fell agonisingly short of an outright victory in the battle of the top two sides in the Minor Championship with a comfortable first innings victory over North Shore at Cornwall Park.
The visitors notched up 170 when they batted first on day one. Despite losing regular wickets in reply, Cornwall’s powerful batting line-up proved to be strong again as the hosts reached 234/9 – a lead of 64 runs – before declaring their innings.
Shore’s second dig didn’t go to plan either.
They were bowled out for just 89 thanks in no small part to Shastryn Nair who returned the impressive figures of 4/19.
Cornwall needed just 26 runs to secure the outright win but they would ultimately fall short on 12/1 as time ran out on Sunday.
However the first innings win was enough to see Cornwall claim possession of the lead at the top of the Tom Hellaby Trophy ladder.
Cornwall will take on Eden Roskill this weekend at Keith Hay Park.
