Dry eye solution
ptik Eyecare Newmarket is the first optometrist in Auckland to offer the newest IPL technology especially designed to alleviate the symptoms of dry eye.
This cutting edge technology, IPL (Intense Pulsed Light) system is a high intensity light source that emits polychromatic, non-coherent light over a broad spectrum. Unique filters in the IPL limit the wavelengths between 550mm and 1200mm for dry eye treatments. This is a specific IPL device to treat only Meibomian gland dysfunction, which is the most common cause of dry eye syndrome.
The treatment of dry eye disease using IPL can be traced to Dr Ronaldo Toyos, an ophthalmologist in Memphis, USA. He used the IPL treatment for skin lesions and found that his patients were coming back and reporting their dry eye symptoms had also improved dramatically. This was the beginning of the E-Eye IPL technology.
Associate professor Jennifer Craig recently completed a study at the Department of Ophthalmology, Auckland University which demonstrated an 86 per cent patient satisfaction rate after three treatments.
The E-Eye IPL technology has been brought to New Zealand by France Medical and is being used by many ophthalmologists and optometrists throughout the world.
For optimum results three treatments are recommended on days one, 14 and 45. The three session therapeutic treatment is $540. For more information call 520 1000 or visit www.patersonburn.co.nz.
